Respect according to Mastorrencito’s Manuela

Chapter 8: Not Everyone Likes Us, But We Also Deserve Respect

Accepting That Not Everyone Loves Animals

One quiet afternoon at Mas Torrencito, while Miguel checked some emails, I, Manuela, watched from my favorite corner. The sun was coming through the window, warming my paws, and I couldn’t help reflecting on something that has been on my mind: there are people who don’t like dogs. I know, it’s hard to believe, but it’s true.

I approached Miguel, wagging my tail slowly, and gave him that look he always uses to get his attention.

Manuela: «Miguel, can you believe that there are humans who want nothing to do with us dogs?»
Miguel (without looking away from the computer): «Yes, Manuela, I know. But, hey, it’s okay. Everyone has their own tastes. Although, between you and me, they miss the best of life!»
Manuela: «Exactly. They’ll never know what it’s like to feel unconditional love, silent support or pure loyalty. But hey, we agree that it doesn’t make them any better or worse, right?»
Miguel: «Of course, Manuela. The important thing is that, even if they don’t like us, they respect us. Just as we respect their preferences.»

Respect Is Earned, But It Is Also Given

It’s true, respect has to be mutual. But, let’s be honest, sometimes the humans who live with us don’t do much to make them respect us. There are certain basic rules that, if followed, would help them see us in a better light.

Manuela: «For example, when someone is afraid, the minimum would be for you to step back a little when you cross paths with them. It doesn’t cost anything!»
Miguel: «Sure, but it’s also in my hand, as your master, to set an example. If someone tells me they don’t feel comfortable, it’s okay to hold you by the leash for a moment or keep a little distance. It’s a small gesture that can change a lot.»

Manuela: «And let’s not even talk about picking up after ourselves. Miguel, you have always been responsible, but there are humans who don’t do it and then look down on us, as if it were our fault.»
Miguel (laughing): «It’s true, Manuela. Sometimes I think that the humans who don’t pick up are the ones who hurt us dogs the most. Because they create rejection. And that’s not fair to you guys.»

The Rules, For Everyone. Respect according to Manuela de Mastorrencito

And then there are those rules that sometimes some humans think don’t affect them. Like the use of the leash in certain places. I, personally, have never minded being on a leash when the occasion calls for it. I remember the times when Mas Torrencito’s clients took me for walks through the beautiful villages of the Empordà. I walked quietly by their side, without pulling, enjoying the scenery. And when I was already old and could not go so fast, they slowed down for me.

Manuela: «Miguel, what I don’t understand is why there are humans who believe that rules are optional. If a place says that dogs must be tied up, then let’s go tied up! And if they don’t like it, let them talk it over with whoever it is, but don’t go around breaking the rules.»
Miguel: «Absolutely, Manuela. It doesn’t cost anything to follow the rules. And if someone thinks they are unfair, instead of ignoring them, the logical thing to do is to denounce them or look for another site. But, hey, not everyone thinks like you and me.»

In Our Home, We Also Ask for Respect

At Mas Torrencito, dogs are part of the family. Here we live with freedom, love and respect. But we also understand that there may be people who do not feel comfortable with us. Now, if you decide to come here, you know that we are part of the environment. We are not going to shut ourselves away or disappear because someone doesn’t like us.

Manuela: «You know, Miguel? What bothers me the most is when someone comes here, to our house, and acts as if we were the intruders.»
Miguel (crossing his arms and sighing): «Yes, Manuela. That doesn’t make sense. If they don’t like dogs, why come to a place where we are the center of everything? It’s as if they don’t want to enjoy the essence of Mas Torrencito.»

Manuela: «Exactly. And we don’t ask for much, just respect. We respect their beliefs and preferences, and they should respect our way of living and understanding life. If they don’t like it, let them look for another place. But don’t come here to complain.»
Miguel: «Well said, Manuela. Here, as anywhere, respect is fundamental.»

Final Reflection: Coexistence and Mutual Respect. Respect according to Manuela de Mastorrencito

Truth be told, not all humans have to love us, and that’s fine. But respect is non-negotiable. If we want to live in harmony, it takes an effort from both sides: us, the dogs, giving the best of ourselves, and the humans, understanding and respecting our needs and the spaces we share.

Manuela: «So, dear humans, if you don’t like us, that’s fine. But respect us, just as we respect you. And if you come to a place like Mas Torrencito, know that we are part of this house, and here we live in peace and freedom. If it is not your style, just look for another place. But if you decide to come, make sure you understand what it means to share your space with us.»

Because in the end, even if not everyone likes us, we deserve to live with dignity and respect, don’t we, Miguel?
Miguel (smiling): «Of course, Manuela. And it will always be that way, as long as I am here.»

From Mas Torrencito we wish you a good day and that your dog accompanies you !!!!

🌿 Sostenibilitat, benestar i esperit petfriendly a Mas Torrencito

☀️ Energia solar produïda a casa

temperatura estable i confortable tot l’any.
