The Silence of the Borregos by MasTorrencito

This goes for all of you, those who have made a farce of public aid, those who have played with our hopes in the name of energy transition, progress and the «common good». The Silence of the Lambs by MasTorrencito

This goes for the smoke and mirrors salesmen who promised us a sustainable future: solar panels, electric cars, aerothermal energy, green projects that would supposedly change our lives for the better. They told us: «Invest, because now is the time. Grants will come. European funds are assured. Don’t worry, trust. But, as my friend Andrés used to say, «Promise until you get in, and once you get in, forget what you promised.»

Today I write this with the accumulated anger of years of waiting. Four years since I installed my solar panels. Three years since I added batteries to store energy, two years since I opted for aerothermal energy. Two since I opted for aerothermal energy. And the promised aid, where is it? I haven’t seen it, and neither have you. We were sold a bright future, but here I am, paying every penny out of pocket, fighting a system that seems designed to frustrate us. Not to mention the COVID ICOS.

And I am not the only one. Behind every family, every small businessman who believed in these promises, there are stories of sacrifice and disappointment. How many have lost their businesses, their savings, their dreams? How many companies have closed their doors after investing in this energy transition that promised to save the world? And how many politicians have stood up for it? None. We are a society that abandons its own, that moves forward leaving economic and human corpses in its path.

The same happened with the COVID-19 pandemic. «Help will come,» they said. «We will do what is necessary to protect our businesses and families.» And where are those subsidies? Has anyone seen them? Because small businesses closed down. The self-employed were left up to their necks in debt. Families lost their homes. But the banks never stopped collecting. Mortgages, ICOS, loans… the financial system continued to squeeze those who no longer had anything. And for those who managed to survive the crisis, the solution was to get deeper into debt. Paying the COVID ICOS with new ICOS. An endless wheel, designed to crush the little guy while the big guys celebrate their profits.

We are the Memento Society, incapable of remembering. We forget quickly because it is easier to look away than to face reality.

And the volcano of La Palma? Another tragedy turned into a media spectacle. Promises of billions to rebuild the island. Big headlines, exciting speeches, commitments signed in invisible ink. And today, what’s left? Nothing. Those affected are still waiting. Living in precarious conditions. Struggling to rebuild what they lost while the system ignores them. And now Valencia. Another story of abandonment, another tragedy that will be lost in time, buried by the indifference of all.

We turn on the TV looking for answers and all we find is a deafening silence. Nothing. Res. Zero. The media no longer informs because it does not sell, because it is of no interest. Politicians have moved on to their next great promise. But the banks continue to charge. The same banks that were injected with 100,000 million… which is soon said and have never paid back… the same banks that, in the midst of the crisis, break profit records. While we go into debt to survive, they celebrate their dividends. The rich get richer. The powerful, more powerful. Just look at the Forbes list to understand how this game works. They win. They always win.

What about grants? Ah, the aids… Those that were sold to us as the lifeline of our society. Those that only reach a lucky few. The suckers, the opportunists, those who know how to play the system’s game. And a tiny group of real people, if they are lucky, manage to touch them. But for most of us, that help is an illusion, a mirage that vanishes as soon as you get close.

Banks continue to earn more. Their executives, who were already earning exorbitant salaries, now pocket 12,000 to 17,000 euros a month. The rich, those who have never known the fear of not making ends meet, are getting even richer. And we, the sheep, continue to walk in line. We accept everything without complaining. Because we are tired. Because they have convinced us that we cannot change anything.

And in the meantime, here we are. ALONE. Struggling to stay afloat. Because in this society there is no safety net. There is no justice here. Here everyone must save himself as best he can. As that cruel saying went, «Faggot last.» Because if you fall, no one will help you. This system is not designed to save us. It is designed to squeeze us.

As my grandmother, more Catholic than the Pope, used to say: «It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than to see a corrupt politician or a banker sitting in the dock». And how right he was. Big corruption scandals are forgotten. The banks, which ruined thousands, continue to operate as if nothing happened. Politicians, with evidence against them, never set foot in jail. There is no justice for the powerful here.

What about us? We remain silent. Because it is easier to remain silent than to shout. Easier to resign than to fight. But I do not want to remain silent. I don’t want to be part of this herd that advances towards the abyss without raising my voice. Enough is enough.

This cannot continue. How much longer are we going to accept silence? How much longer will we remain sheep? The answer is in our hands, but only if we decide to act. Only if we stop being silent. Only if we understand that silence is the weapon they use against us. It is time to shout. It is time to wake up.

🌿 Sustainability, wellbeing and a pet-friendly spirit at Mas Torrencito
At Mas Torrencito, we understand sustainability as something inseparable from the wellbeing of people… and their dogs. We live surrounded by nature and share our space with animals every day, so caring for the environment is not an option: it is part of our way of life.

For this reason, we are committed to a model of conscious, efficient and deeply pet-friendly rural tourism, where technology, respect for the environment and living alongside pets go hand in hand.

☀️ Solar energy produced on site

We have a photovoltaic installation consisting of:

🔹 72 solar panels
🔹 Individual panel power: 450 W
🔹 Total installed capacity: ~32.4 kWp

Thanks to the high level of solar radiation in the Empordà, this system allows an estimated annual production of between 50,000 and 55,000 kWh, covering a very significant part of the accommodation’s energy consumption.

➡️ A large part of the energy used to heat water, light the rooms and provide comfort for guests and pets is generated directly at the farmhouse.

🔋 Batteries to make the most of every ray of sunshine

Solar energy is complemented by an energy storage system with:

🔹 40 kWh in batteries
🔹 Use of surplus energy
🔹 Use of self-generated energy during the night

This allows us to:

reduce dependence on the grid,
minimise consumption peaks,
and ensure a more stable energy supply, even during periods of high occupancy (when dogs and people are enjoying themselves to the fullest 🐶😄).

🌡️ Efficient thermal comfort (aerothermal system)

The climate control at Mas Torrencito is provided by aerothermal technology, a highly efficient and environmentally friendly system that offers:

lower energy consumption,
reduced emissions,
stable and comfortable temperatures all year round.

Ideal for people to feel comfortable… and for dogs to sleep peacefully, without excessive heat or cold.

💧 Responsible water use

We use greywater recycling systems, reusing water from showers and washbasins for other non-potable purposes.

In a rural setting, every drop counts, especially when there are gardens, green areas and happy dogs running around.

♻️ Recycling and responsible waste management

We promote a conscious approach to waste management through:

selective waste separation,
reduction of plastics,
responsible use of cleaning products and consumables.

All with the aim of maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for people and pets.

🐾 Rural tourism with meaning (and with paw prints)

Mas Torrencito is:

a rural retreat where dogs are part of the family,
a project that cares for the natural environment,
and a place where sustainability and pet-friendly values are not labels, but a daily reality.

Because we believe there is no better rural tourism than one that respects nature… and those who enjoy it on four paws 🐕💚
