The client who left her riding crop and handcuffs…

(and no, they were not for the dog… I think).

Ahhhh, friends… Am I surprised? PO-SI-BLE-BLE-MEN-TE NO! 😂 At this point in the movie – and after hundreds, thousands of doggy and human guests at Mas Torrencito – few things leave me with my mouth open… but there’s always someone who makes you crack a crooked little smile as you think, «This only happens to me.»

Today’s story begins like many others: a room, a hasty exit, and a forgotten object. Well, objects, plural: a riding crop, some handcuffs and, attention, a bag that didn’t seem to be carrying cookies for the dog… 🤐

I’m not one to look at what I don’t care about -although I admit that curiosity gets the better of me than dieting at Christmas- but when you open the door and see that pack… well boy, one thing leads to another, and your mind goes off on its own to a movie that clearly isn’t Disney.

And of course, the funny thing about this is that she was one of those customers who are serious, the kind that don’t smile much and make comments like: «I don’t know what to say:

«My little dog only plays with me, I don’t want him to hang out with other dogs.»
Sure, honey… and neither do you, huh? 😏

It is the same one that comes two, three, even four times a year (round trip-…. round trip…). From Switzerland to the Canary Islands… from Canarionas to Switzerland …… By car. With his dog! 🚗🐶 Crossing half of Europe so that the doggie can step on black sand and you can breathe warm air. Admirable. Truly admirable. What I don’t understand is why, after that 4,000 kilometers journey, you arrive at the first petfriendly rural house that admits people and… YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE OTHER DOGS! 😳

In other words, you bring your furry friend to doggy paradise… but you’d rather there were no more furries. Only you. And him. And no one else. As if Mas Torrencito were a sort of Fifty Shades of Fido.

And the funny thing is that he always repeats. Always. And always the same. She comes, stays, enjoys… and makes it clear with her eyes that she would prefer to be the only inhabitant of paradise (her and her beloved dog, of course). Her partner, by the way, doesn’t say anything either. She limits herself to being. To exist. Sometimes I suspect that the handcuffs were for him… 😬

And I, who already see it coming, when I know they are coming I pray to Saint Lazarus of the Lost Collars so that we don’t have too much «doggy atmosphere» that weekend, not because of me… because of his face. That face of «oh, how upset I am going to be if a Chihuahua dares to stare at me…».

But hey, to Caesar what is Caesar’s: they never complain, never give bad reviews and pay religiously. Of course, the whip and handcuffs have been left on them several times already. Once again, in the same room, behind the door. Could it be that they want to leave a mark? Could it be a subliminal message? Or is it simply that there are weekends that leave their mark… even if not on the lawn? even if it’s not on the lawn? 🌱🐾

Anyway
Mas Torrencito: the place where dogs run free… and so do anecdotes.
Where you can come with wellies, riding crop or simply with your soul open… but be prepared to meet more than one dog, and more than one story! 😉

From MasTorrencito we wish you a good day and may your dogs be with you!!!!

🌿 Sustainability, wellbeing and a pet-friendly spirit at Mas Torrencito
At Mas Torrencito, we understand sustainability as something inseparable from the wellbeing of people… and their dogs. We live surrounded by nature and share our space with animals every day, so caring for the environment is not an option: it is part of our way of life.

For this reason, we are committed to a model of conscious, efficient and deeply pet-friendly rural tourism, where technology, respect for the environment and living alongside pets go hand in hand.

☀️ Solar energy produced on site

We have a photovoltaic installation consisting of:

🔹 72 solar panels
🔹 Individual panel power: 450 W
🔹 Total installed capacity: ~32.4 kWp

Thanks to the high level of solar radiation in the Empordà, this system allows an estimated annual production of between 50,000 and 55,000 kWh, covering a very significant part of the accommodation’s energy consumption.

➡️ A large part of the energy used to heat water, light the rooms and provide comfort for guests and pets is generated directly at the farmhouse.

🔋 Batteries to make the most of every ray of sunshine

Solar energy is complemented by an energy storage system with:

🔹 40 kWh in batteries
🔹 Use of surplus energy
🔹 Use of self-generated energy during the night

This allows us to:

reduce dependence on the grid,
minimise consumption peaks,
and ensure a more stable energy supply, even during periods of high occupancy (when dogs and people are enjoying themselves to the fullest 🐶😄).

🌡️ Efficient thermal comfort (aerothermal system)

The climate control at Mas Torrencito is provided by aerothermal technology, a highly efficient and environmentally friendly system that offers:

lower energy consumption,
reduced emissions,
stable and comfortable temperatures all year round.

Ideal for people to feel comfortable… and for dogs to sleep peacefully, without excessive heat or cold.

💧 Responsible water use

We use greywater recycling systems, reusing water from showers and washbasins for other non-potable purposes.

In a rural setting, every drop counts, especially when there are gardens, green areas and happy dogs running around.

♻️ Recycling and responsible waste management

We promote a conscious approach to waste management through:

selective waste separation,
reduction of plastics,
responsible use of cleaning products and consumables.

All with the aim of maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for people and pets.

🐾 Rural tourism with meaning (and with paw prints)

Mas Torrencito is:

a rural retreat where dogs are part of the family,
a project that cares for the natural environment,
and a place where sustainability and pet-friendly values are not labels, but a daily reality.

Because we believe there is no better rural tourism than one that respects nature… and those who enjoy it on four paws 🐕💚
