A Miracle in Más Torrencito

At Más Torrencito, tranquility was always the soul of the days. Guests arrived with tired hearts, looking for a peace that seemed to hide among the trees and the singing of the birds. A Miracle at Más Torrencito

There, humans and dogs shared a unique space of harmony. But that afternoon, the calm that enveloped the cottage was replaced by anguish and despair.

Luis and Toby: an arrival full of hope

Luis arrived carrying a light backpack and a heavy soul. After a year full of losses and silences, he had found in Más Torrencito the promise of a respite. However, he did not arrive alone. At his side was Toby, a little mongrel with pointed ears and an intelligent gaze. His energy was contagious, and his eyes conveyed a mixture of mischief and love that made it impossible not to smile.

From the very first moment, Toby became the soul of the group. He would run around the garden, play with the other dogs, and approach the guests to ask for petting. Even Markos, the Spanish Mastiff who always watched everything with his solemn calm, accepted the newcomer. Markos walked slowly, with his left front paw crooked, but his bearing was dignified. At Más Torrencito, he was more than a dog: he was the guardian and the heart of the house.

That night, as guests shared laughter and anecdotes in the lounge, Luis watched Toby with a quiet smile. It was the first time in a long time that he felt the weight of his life lighten.

-It’s amazing how this place makes everything seem so easy,» Luis commented to one of the guests.

-And the dogs help even more. There’s always someone here who understands you, even if they don’t speak,» replied a woman petting her golden retriever.

Luis nodded, while Toby, oblivious to the conversation, played with Markos.

The moment that changed everything. A Miracle in Más Torrencito

The next day, Luis decided to go out into the woods with Toby. The afternoon was perfect: the sun gilded the leaves, and the fresh air seemed to erase all worries. Toby ran from one side to the other, exploring every corner, while Luis followed him with his eyes, enjoying his freedom.

-Don’t go too far away, little guy,» she said, laughing, as Toby darted after a butterfly.

Suddenly, a noise in the bushes caught Toby’s attention. It was an instant, just the blink of an eye, and the dog disappeared into the trees.

-Toby! -Luis shouted, running after him.

The minutes went on forever. Luis shouted his dog’s name over and over again, his voice growing more and more desperate. But the forest seemed to engulf his words. No clues, no barking, no answers.

When Luis returned to the cottage in the evening, his face was a picture of anguish. The other guests, upon seeing him enter, stopped what they were doing.

-What happened? -asked a young woman, alarmed.

-Toby… He’s lost. I can’t find him. He ran away and… God, I don’t know what to do…» Luis could barely speak, his voice cracking with despair.

Markos, resting near the fireplace, raised his head, his dark eyes fixed on Luis.

The search begins. A Miracle in Más Torrencito

-Let’s go find him,» said an older man, standing up.

-Yes, don’t worry, we’ll find him. No one gets lost here,» added another guest, as he started looking for a flashlight.

Within minutes, everyone was ready. Flashlights, blankets and words of encouragement mingled with the chill of the night that was beginning to fall. Luis, though grateful, could barely stand. The thought of Toby, alone and frightened in the middle of the forest, tore him apart.

-Come on, Luis. Toby is strong. And you’re not alone,» said a woman, squeezing his shoulder.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle, Markos watched silently. His crooked leg did not allow him to move with agility, but his instinct seemed to be working. When the last guests emerged into the forest, the mastiff struggled to his feet and, without any prompting, began to walk towards the path.

-Markos… Where are you going? -asked one of the housekeepers.

But the dog did not stop. Limping, with his slow but determined stride, he disappeared into the trees.

Hours of uncertainty

The search was long and tense. Luis walked almost blindly, calling for Toby without rest. The other guests also struggled, but the forest was immense, and the night was relentless.

-Maybe we should go back and wait for sunrise,» suggested one of the guests after hours of no sign.

-I can’t… I can’t leave without him…» Luis answered, his voice cracking.

Meanwhile, Markos advanced alone through the forest. His nose glued to the ground, following trails that only he could detect. Each step was a small struggle, but his determination was unwavering. It wasn’t the first time the mastiff had taken on the role of protector, and this time would be no different.

The return of the hero. A Miracle in Más Torrencito

It was almost five in the morning when a sound broke the silence. A low, slow, unmistakable bark: Markos’. Everyone near the house ran towards the source of the sound.

Luis was the first to see him. From the edge of the forest, Markos appeared, walking with difficulty but with his head held high. In his mouth, held with a gentleness that seemed impossible, was Toby. The little dog was trembling, covered in leaves and dirt, but he was alive.

-Toby! -Luis shouted, falling to his knees.

Markos put the dog down and sat up with difficulty, panting but with a serene expression. Toby, as soon as he saw Luis, ran to him, throwing himself into his arms. Luis hugged him tightly, crying uncontrollably.

-Thank you, Markos… Thank you…» he whispered, while stroking the mastiff’s head.

Markos simply looked at him, with those deep eyes that seemed to say: It was the right thing to do.

An indelible memory

Back at the house, everyone celebrated Toby’s return as a miracle. Luis kept thanking the other guests, but most of all, Markos, who was resting by the fireplace, his crooked paw stretched out in front of him.

-He’s a hero, isn’t he? -said Luis, stroking the mastiff’s head.

-It always has been,» replied a housekeeper, smiling.

That night, as Toby slept against his chest, Luis understood something important. Más Torrencito was not just a place to unwind; it was a home where broken souls found solace, and where even heroes could hobble.

And Markos, the slow-stepping mastiff with an immense heart, would remain the guardian of that sanctuary, a living symbol of hope and love.

🌿 Sustainability, wellbeing and a pet-friendly spirit at Mas Torrencito
At Mas Torrencito, we understand sustainability as something inseparable from the wellbeing of people… and their dogs. We live surrounded by nature and share our space with animals every day, so caring for the environment is not an option: it is part of our way of life.

For this reason, we are committed to a model of conscious, efficient and deeply pet-friendly rural tourism, where technology, respect for the environment and living alongside pets go hand in hand.

☀️ Solar energy produced on site

We have a photovoltaic installation consisting of:

🔹 72 solar panels
🔹 Individual panel power: 450 W
🔹 Total installed capacity: ~32.4 kWp

Thanks to the high level of solar radiation in the Empordà, this system allows an estimated annual production of between 50,000 and 55,000 kWh, covering a very significant part of the accommodation’s energy consumption.

➡️ A large part of the energy used to heat water, light the rooms and provide comfort for guests and pets is generated directly at the farmhouse.

🔋 Batteries to make the most of every ray of sunshine

Solar energy is complemented by an energy storage system with:

🔹 40 kWh in batteries
🔹 Use of surplus energy
🔹 Use of self-generated energy during the night

This allows us to:

reduce dependence on the grid,
minimise consumption peaks,
and ensure a more stable energy supply, even during periods of high occupancy (when dogs and people are enjoying themselves to the fullest 🐶😄).

🌡️ Efficient thermal comfort (aerothermal system)

The climate control at Mas Torrencito is provided by aerothermal technology, a highly efficient and environmentally friendly system that offers:

lower energy consumption,
reduced emissions,
stable and comfortable temperatures all year round.

Ideal for people to feel comfortable… and for dogs to sleep peacefully, without excessive heat or cold.

💧 Responsible water use

We use greywater recycling systems, reusing water from showers and washbasins for other non-potable purposes.

In a rural setting, every drop counts, especially when there are gardens, green areas and happy dogs running around.

♻️ Recycling and responsible waste management

We promote a conscious approach to waste management through:

selective waste separation,
reduction of plastics,
responsible use of cleaning products and consumables.

All with the aim of maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for people and pets.

🐾 Rural tourism with meaning (and with paw prints)

Mas Torrencito is:

a rural retreat where dogs are part of the family,
a project that cares for the natural environment,
and a place where sustainability and pet-friendly values are not labels, but a daily reality.

Because we believe there is no better rural tourism than one that respects nature… and those who enjoy it on four paws 🐕💚
