We’ve got quite a few forests. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\nSo we’ve put together something a bit more useful.<\/p>\n\nThis isn’t just a list of Girona’s prettiest forests<\/strong>. La Fageda d’en Jord\u00e0 \u2014 Santa Pau<\/h2>\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mastorrencito.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/slide-home-003-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"La Fageda d'en Jord\u00e0 beech forest near Santa Pau, Girona\">\n\nLet’s start with the obvious one.<\/p>\n\nYes, we know it shows up on absolutely every list.<\/p>\n\nBut there are touristy places that are overrated, and touristy places that are famous because they’re genuinely extraordinary<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\nLa Fageda belongs to the second group.<\/p>\n\nIt’s an entirely unusual beech forest, growing at around 550 metres of altitude on an old lava flow from the Croscat volcano. Les Estunes \u2014 Porqueres, Banyoles<\/h2>\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mastorrencito.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/1063px-la-puda-entrada-1024x694.jpeg\" alt=\"Les Estunes forest near Banyoles, with travertine rock formations\">\n\nThis one is probably the great hidden gem of the list<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\nLes Estunes is a small, damp, shady forest very close to Lake Banyoles.<\/p>\n\nBut the truly curious part here isn’t just the trees.<\/p>\n\nThe ground is made up of large blocks of travertine that, over time, have cracked, creating crevices, small caves, corridors, and natural passageways<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\nThere are places where you go for a hike.<\/p>\n\nAnd there are places where it looks like someone set the stage before you arrived.<\/p>\n\nThis is one of the latter.<\/p>\n\nIt’s also linked to one of the loveliest legends of the Pla de l’Estany: the Goges de Les Estunes<\/strong>, water women or fairies who, according to tradition, lived among the crevices and came out at night.<\/p>\n\nWe can’t guarantee you’ll see any.<\/p>\n\nAlthough with certain Mas Torrencito guests we’ve seen far stranger things. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\ud83d\udccd From Mas Torrencito:<\/strong> about 35\u201340 minutes \n\ud83d\udeb6 Walk:<\/strong> short; perfect to combine with Banyoles \n\u26f0\ufe0f Difficulty:<\/strong> easy, though careful around the crevices \n\ud83c\udf33 Shade:<\/strong> excellent \n\ud83d\udca7 Water:<\/strong> we’re right by the lake area, but bring drinking water for the dog \n\ud83d\udc15 Dog:<\/strong> keep especially controlled around crevices and narrow spots \n\ud83d\udc68\u200d\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67\u200d\ud83d\udc66 Crowds:<\/strong> low-medium \n\u2600\ufe0f Best time:<\/strong> pretty much all year \n\u2b50 Mas Torrencito dog rating:<\/strong> 8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n<h3>\ud83d\udc36 Which dog is it for?<\/h3>\n\nFor the curious one.<\/p>\n\nThat dog who takes ten minutes to cover twenty metres because it absolutely needs to know who passed by yesterday, the day before, and possibly back in 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\nAlso, thanks to its shade, this is one of our favourites for a short summer outing.<\/p>\n\n<hr>\n\n<h2>\ud83c\udf32 3. Vall de Sant Daniel \u2192 Castell de Sant Miquel \u2014 Girona<\/h2>\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mastorrencito.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/vall-sant-daniel-camins-girona-costa-brava-1.jpg\" alt=\"Vall de Sant Daniel, Girona, path towards Castell de Sant Miquel\">\n\nThis one has a fantastic quirk:<\/p>\n\nyou can start almost right from Girona city itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\nLa Vall de Sant Daniel is one of those small wonderful anomalies we have here.<\/p>\n\nYou’re a stone’s throw from the Barri Vell, and suddenly you’re walking among vegetation, paths, and fountains as if you’d travelled many kilometres away.<\/p>\n\nIf you want to add a bit more spice to the walk, you can continue up to the Castell de Sant Miquel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\nThe route proposed by Turisme Giron\u00e8s is about 9.35 km with 318 metres of elevation gain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\ud83d\udccd From Mas Torrencito:<\/strong> about 30\u201335 minutes to Girona \n\ud83d\udeb6 Walk:<\/strong> up to 9.35 km if you climb to Sant Miquel \n\u26f0\ufe0f Elevation gain:<\/strong> 318 m \n\ud83c\udf33 Shade:<\/strong> good along much of the Vall de Sant Daniel \n\ud83d\udca7 Water:<\/strong> there are fountains in the valley, but don’t rely on them for the dog \n\ud83d\udc15 Dog:<\/strong> great for a dog with medium activity levels \n\ud83d\udc68\u200d\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67\u200d\ud83d\udc66 Crowds:<\/strong> higher near Girona, lower as you climb \n\u2600\ufe0f Best time:<\/strong> pretty much all year \n\u2b50 Mas Torrencito dog rating:<\/strong> 8.5\/10<\/p>\n\n<h3>\ud83d\udc15\u200d\ud83e\uddba Which dog is it for?<\/h3>\n\nFor the city dweller with a mountain soul.<\/p>\n\nThe one who calmly strolls through Girona in the morning, and half an hour later is burying its head in the bushes as if it had never seen a pavement.<\/p>\n\nIt’s also our favourite option if you’re visiting Girona and want to combine city + dog + nature<\/strong> in the same day.<\/p>\n\n<hr>\n\n<h2>\ud83c\udf3f 7.
