years<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been working in rural tourism&nbsp;<strong>for almost 20 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And from day one I had something very clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We needed online reservations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember when many accommodations were still working with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>paper agendas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>notebooks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>phone calls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>handwritten notes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And what is surprising is that\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>it still happens today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many rural accommodations still do not have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a booking engine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>online availability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an optimized website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes because of comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes because technology feels overwhelming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And sometimes because nobody explained places<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But to compete in the new digital world we also need something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Connectivity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Updated websites.<br>Booking engines.<br>Clear information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the day someone asks AI:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cFind me an authentic rural guesthouse where I can travel with my dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The accommodations that are ready&nbsp;<strong>will appear first.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This is not the end of Booking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t believe&nbsp;Booking.com&nbsp;will disappear tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I don\u2019t think platforms like&nbsp;Expedia&nbsp;will vanish overnight either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I do believe one thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The balance may begin to shift.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for the first time in many years, small rural accommodations may regain something very important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>direct relationships with their guests.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The question is not if it will happen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The question is not if it will happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it probably will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real question is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will we be ready when it happens?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the future of rural tourism does not depend only on the platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also depends on us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On whether we choose to adapt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether we choose to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And whether we decide to take the step forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
